Looking back to the start of this project I can see that social media shares an integral part to the basis of today’s current world. The different abilities that it has towards connecting and disconnecting itself, is one that has allowed me to explore within the developed work. Positive feedback from different users, has enabled me to create different experimental pieces that further amplify the issue. Targeting various people by means of hash tags I created a small community that filters within my perception of virtual connection.
Before Setting off with this project I thought that the digital sphere that I was used to mainly that of Facebook was the only communicative social interaction that I could reach out to an audience. Having been forced to move away from Facebook and direct my reach in other social media platforms, it has truly showed me how limited and close minded is the Facebook sphere. Something that individuals in Malta have not truly yet explored.
What will happen Next?
I am very positive with this approach and through this experiment, I was able to acknowledge that the subject at hand is very elaborate and further investigation will reach into places that I have not yet discovered. In the coming months I would like to further explore and investigate these platforms within exposing the dichotomy that this interaction allows. Through my own brand identity as a freelance designer I will push and work into evolving my name towards projects as #thesocialreality under the name of michelinmission.
To each and every dichotomy the beauty that social media transmits, provide certain users freedom ‘to a certain extent’ and the freedom to explore different loop holes that make this interaction unique and beautiful to engage with.
As found within Howard’s Newman adventure to Amsterdam, the simple technology failure, provides us with something that is profound and deeply impact to the mundane and vernacular videos that access the linearity of abiding with the rules.
(This link has been removed from the channel ;/) It was about a grand father which recorded his journey to Amsterdam with a new go pro in the wrong direction. What you could see in the video was the random reactions and laughs he had with his wife.
In thus similar way the back Camera process has allowed me to interact within shapes and different manipulative processes upon which the linearity of the previous weeks could be further distorted and deviated from the actual truth, providing a clearer outlook towards the social reality of the whole process. In this Light different angles and light processes has been formed and worked upon.
Another interesting APP that has been launched for Android last week is that of created by Casey Neistat a New York Film Maker. An app that removes the element of filter and edits and seeks to portray the raw moments that we live in. The only thing that you can review is the reactions that people send back, which is only seen once. To this the resolving idea of moment bears within an important part in portraying the true and authentic experience.
Check out Casey Neistat Work a great inspiring Vlogger!
Collaboration for Ai WeiWei is possible within the different spaces found within the social interaction. The act of sharing an idea is one of utmost importance.
Trying to expose the reality that I find compelling within the social media, I looked within my authentic perspective and reaction to this project. At times I failed in providing a clear outlook to the dichotomy and pattern and see everyday. Nonetheless, I kept on trying.
“Disneyland is presented as imaginary in order to make us believe that the rest is real, whereas all of Los Angeles and the America that surrounds it are no longer real, but belong to the hyperreal order and to the order of simulation. It is no longer a question of a false representation of reality (ideology) but of concealing the fact that the real is no longer real, and thus of saving the reality principle.” -Jean Baudrillard ,Simulacra and Simulation
Where he tries to evaluate the exterior image of the imperfect DISNEY WORLD to the condition that the outer space provides. A dichotomy in which it portrays the difference as found within social media. Taking it to a visual account, as the controversial street artists BANKSY in his work portrays this dichotomy to us all to see.
Taking this to account is this the hidden reality of the SOCIAL MEDIA? Are we being controlled? Is this the fantasy we live in whilst browsing the online interface? Are we in control?
Invisible relationships build via. network. Is this Connection?
‘Something they can’t get in real life’
The following video is a visual representation of the negative and positive comments found online, addressing the image and the ways people interact with one another. Are we hiding within these spaces? is this a virtual reality.
Essena O’Neill, as she states below she describes the manipulative side of being a social media sensation.
But for people like this the online platform is the accessibility and a means of interacting….an Accessibility !
Finding the weaker parts of the world and amending it.
3 Teching Hsieh – We are bodies that repeat and repeat. This work is about an artist that punched clocked for every hour of every day for an entire year. Taking photographs he documents the mundane process that of revealing the vernacular state of being human.
“I’m just basically passing time”
This element contributed to the way I wanted to present the contrasting parallels that social media has on its user. We are individuals that from crack of dawn we wake up interacting within this space and until the end of the day we breath social media.
The conflicting dichotomy that this media retains is the beauty of exploring the limitations that reality restrains us to obtain.
